Make sure it is typical of the plant you
are taking it from. |
 |
2 |
Cut stem just below leaf joint and reduce
leaf area by half. |
 |
3 |
Bottom right cutting should have been
trimmed a little closer to the leaf joint. |
 |
4 |
Hold cutting as shown and gently push into
compost so that remaining portion of leaves does not come into contact with the compost. |
 |
5 |
Fill container with cuttings without them
touching each other. |
 |
6 |
Spaced out nicely. Do not forget your
label. If you do not know the name even minimal information is useful. |
 |
7 |
Cover pot with polythene sandwich bag and
using identical pot drop one pot inside the other trapping the bottom edge of bag. |
 |
8 |
Gently tap pot on a hard surface to secure
and you will be able to lift your little propagator by the bag. |
 |
9 |
When your cutting has rooted pot up into
the smallest pot that comfortably takes the root and when it has grown three pairs of
leaves pinch out the growing tip. |
 |
10 |
Pinch out at this point. |
 |
11 |
Fingers knife or scissors will all do the
job but try to do it cleanly. |
 |
12 |
This will now encourage each side shoot to
develop, and when they reach three pairs of leaves each, pinch out in the same manner. |
 |
13 |
When the pot fills with roots pot on.
Remove pot from plant and place inside a pot 25mm larger and fill the gap with compost. |
 |
14 |
Gently twist and remove smaller pot and
drop in your plant. Now wait for bigger things. |
