Favourite Fuchsia
My Favourite Fuchsia is a large white double cultivar, introduced in
1978 by Dr. Mathew Ryle from Northumbria and released by Fuehsiavale Nurseries of
Kidderminster.
It was named after the wife of Carlisle grower and exhibitor Norman
Mitchinson. Norman grew all of Mathew Ryle's seedlings to assess their potential and then
recommended to Fuchsiavale which were the best cultivars for release commercially. This
cultivar was awarded the BFS Award of Merit and First Class Certificate- The BFS Seedling
Committee certainly got this one right as it is excellent!
Listed in Nursery catalogues as upright, I have seen it exhibited in all classes on the
show bench. It makes a large full basket, an even better half basket, an excellent bush
and a beautiful fan. But the best way to show this wonderful fuchsia is as a standard. MY
favourite fuchsia, the only one, it is reputed by my friends at North Worcs., that I can
grow, is ANNABEL!
For those who do not know the cultivar it is a large white double with
light green foliage and is best described as a lax bush. When exhibiting I won all my
major trophies with this excellent plant grown as a half or full standard.
