Formed in 1981, the Society has gone from strength to strength and is one of the most
successful societies affiliated to the British Fuchsia Society. We now celebrate our 25th
Anniversary in 2006.
Membership numbers have remained similar over the years, containing a good mix of
founder and experienced members together with keen newcomers, all sharing a mutual
interest. Within the membership, we have a number of experienced showmen and women who
regularly win prizes at the various British Fuchsia Society shows throughout the country,
as well as specialists such as BFS judges, hybridizers and a nursery owner. So if you ever
need help on any aspect of fuchsia growing or showing there is always someone to call
upon.
The Society holds monthly meetings at Kinson Community Centre, Millhams Lane, Kinson at
7.30 pm on the second Thursday in the month where we have both informative and
entertaining talks from an array of specialists on all aspects of growing our favourite
plants. We also hold many other functions throughout the year such as beginners' evenings,
plant sales, nursery visits and members open gardens.
Finally, we have our annual Show in late July, when we take over Kinson Community
Centre and stage what is regarded as one of the most successful and best regional shows in
the fuchsia year. It contains at least 51 different classes allowing beginners and
experienced show people to compete against others with similar interests and abilities,
and allows many visitors to admire their achievements; we even have classes for children.
All this for just £6.00 per annum. What good value it is, and do not forget that:
"FUCHSIA FOLK ARE FRIENDLY FOLK"
